چکیده

* Results of this investigation were presented at the 43rd (June , 1973) Kinki Regional Meeting of Japanese Pharmacological Society. AbstractEffects of psychotropic drugs on intracranial self-stimulation behavior were investigated in rats with chronic electrodes implanted in the lateral posterior hypothalamus. Major tranquilizers such as chlorpromazine, levomepromazine, haloperidol, clozapine and oxypertine caused a selective depression of self-stimu lation at non-debilitating doses, and a dose-response relationship was also observed. Diazepam depressed this behavior at a dose much larger than that impairing rotarod performance. Chlordiazepoxide, on the contrary, failed to depress self-stimulation even at 50 mg/kg, and rather slightly facilitated this behavior at smaller doses. The mode of action of pentobarbital was similar to that of diazepam. Antidepressants, imipramine and amitriptyline depressed this behavior only at doses larger than those which significantly impaired coordinated motor activity. Methamphetamine rather facilitated self-stimulation at 0.5-1 mg/kg, but depressed it at 5 mg/kg. It is con eluded that hypothalamic self-stimulation is most selectively depressed by major tranquilizers.

Effects of psychotropic drugs on nerve growth factor protein levels in the rat brain

Introduction: Psychotropic drugs exert their effects, in part, by increasing neurotrophin levels in the brain. Nerve growth factor (NGF) protein levels after treatment with only a limited number of psychotropics have been determined. The present study was designed in order to evaluate the effects of acute and chronic administration of different psychotropic drugs on NGF protein levels in fiv...

Effects of chronic haloperidol and chlordiazepoxide treatment on lateral hypothalamic self-stimulation behavior in rats.

The effects of chronic administration of haloperidol and chlordiazepoxide for 14 days on self-stimulation behavior were investigated in rats with electrodes chronically implanted in the lateral hypothalamus. Haloperidol produced a prominent decrease in self-stimulation behavior during chronic treatment, followed by a significant increase in the lever-pressing rate during a 2 week withdrawal per...

Effects of Different Psychotropic Agents on the Central Nerve Growth Factor Protein

Objective(s) Psychotropic medications produce their effects, in part, through increasing neurotrophin levels in the brain. Since studies concerning nerve growth factor (NGF) analysis have been limited in scope, in the current experiments we investigated the effects of diverse psychotropic agents on NGF protein levels in various brain regions of rat. Materials and Methods Male Wistar rats rec...

The effect of intracerebroventricular administration of neuropeptide Y on reproductive axis function in the male Wistar rats: Involvement of hypothalamic KiSS1/GPR54 system

Several studies have shown that neuropeptide Y (NPY) is considered to be one of the key regulators of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in the mammals. Also, kisspeptin is a powerful upstream regulator of gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons in the hypothalamus. The present study aims to investigate the effects of the intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of NPY and BIBP3226 (NPY rece...

A Study of Psychotropic Drugs Being Prescribed to the Patients Attending the Psychiatric Outpatient Department in a Tertiary Care Hospital

BACKGROUND & PURPOSE: Drug utilization research evaluates the appropriateness of the prescriptions which is important in clinical practice. Psychotropic polypharmacy is a major problem in psychiatric practice, which can lead to the development of adverse effects of those drugs in patients. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the utilization of psychotropic drugs being prescribed f...
